planting rice is never fun
bend from morn till set of sun
cannot stand and cannot sit
cannot rest a little bit

鋤禾日當午
汗滴禾下土
誰知盤中餐
粒粒皆辛苦

yes. today we are going to talk about rice.

actually. i am not going to talk much about it. because experience itself speaks louder than words.

took this truck to the field.
such a cheery truck

so awed by the sight of greenery.

we joined the farmers

por peng had already been working hard for hours when we arrived.

this is mae duan

the two of them showed us how to pull the crops out. it was really messy for Toon and I.

although we were out pulling the crops in the field for about an hour, it felt much much longer...

Toon looked so funny here! she was afraid of dropping the crops.

next, we brought these to another plot of paddy field to re plant them. this procedure will boost their growth and the crops will be healthier.

lunch time!

we were only out for two hours. but it felt much much longer.
but everyone else is out there from morning till evening, pretty much most of the days a year.

these are the people working hard for us everyday.

the work is tough. knowing that their hard work can feed a hungry person is their greatest reward.

"it pains me a lot and sometimes makes me angry when people dont finish their rice. its just half a mouthful. why can't they just eat it?"
por peng.

obtaining rice grains is a long process.
the next time you are about to waste food, go stand in the sun for an hour then think again if you should finish your food.

i am happy today, knowing that my 2 hours of work made life slightly easier for the farmers today. and i wish that whoever eats the grain i planted today will appreciate the work and will always be healthy.

i will appreciate my grains and the hard work of the farmers.
