Ayutthaya was the capital of a Siam long since lost that was founded in 1351 by King Ramathibodi I. It was the capital of the country until its destruction by the Burmese Army in 1767, when it lost many valuable and artistic objects.

Nowadays, it is named one of the oldest cities in Thailand and one of the most popular tourist attractions, which you should not miss when traveling to Thailand.

Additionally, Ayutthaya Historical Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site under Criteria III as an excellent witness to the period of development of a true national Thai art.

My trip began at Don Mueang Railway Station. Of course, I traveled to Ayutthaya by train. I went on board the train from Don Mueang Railway Station at 10:30 a.m. The fare was 11 baht each way for each person; that depends on your destinations and type of train. There are many kinds of trains, such as ordinary, rapid, express, special express, etc. For more information about fares and timetables, please visit the State Railway of Thailand’s website at www.railway.co.th.

Finally, the train brought me to Ayutthaya Train Station. It was approximately one hour from Bangkok.

The first thing I did was take a photo of Ayutthaya Train Station’s sign.

I walked from the train station, crossed the road, and walked in the alley to take a boat to Ayutthaya City. In this alley, there are some bicycle and motorcycle rental shops. However, you can rent it in the city for the most convenience and with our recommendation.
The boat fare is only 5 baht per person each way.

And this was a boat that I got on board to Ayutthaya City.

When I arrived in Ayutthaya City, I was able to see many bicycle and motorcycle rental shops. The rental price for bicycles is 50 baht per day and 200 baht per day for motorcycles. It was a sizzling hot day. So, I decided to rent a motorcycle because I was afraid if I biked, I would be exhausted in the high temperatures. The renter gave me a tourist map and recommended some important places that I should visit. Besides, they provided their contact number in case I was lost. However, they were limited to returning it before 6:00 p.m.

This is Wat Mahathat, or the Temple of the Great Relic.
It was a significant temple in the era of Ayutthaya because it enshrined Buddha’s relics in the heart of the capital. And it was the place where the Supreme Patriarch lived. The temple was destroyed by the Second Fall of Ayutthaya.

You can see the ruins of the temple from the war. It is the venerable ruins of a temple in the present.

The temple is open daily from 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.
Entrance fee is 50 baht.

The outstanding moment of visiting this temple is seeing the iconic Buddha head in tree roots. It is probably the most photographed object in the area.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet, or Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient
The temple was the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in Thailand’s ancient capital of Ayutthaya until the city was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and served as a model for Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok or Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai.

It was also the temple of the royal family; no monk lived here. The temple was used exclusively for royal ceremonies.

The temple is open daily from 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.
Entrance fee is 50 baht.

This temple is called Wat Lokkaya Sutharam.
The highlight of this temple is the huge reclining Buddha. It is the biggest reclining Buddha in Ayutthaya.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a Buddhist temple in the city of Ayutthaya, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, outside Ayutthaya Island. It is one of Ayutthaya’s best-known temples and a major tourist attraction.

The temple was constructed in 1630 by King Prasat Thong as the first temple of his reign and as a memorial to his mother’s residence in this area. The temple was designed in Khmer style, which was popular at that time.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram was a royal temple where the king and his successors performed religious ceremonies. In the past, it was a defensive location as well.

The temple is open daily from 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.
Entrance fee is 50 baht.

After exploring temples, I was hungry and would like to find some restaurants for my lunch. I came across a noodle restaurant called Kuay Tiew Ruea Hoy Kha, which in English means "hanging legs seated on a triangle pillow". You can sit on the triangle pillow, hanging your legs, while enjoying your noodles. I could guarantee that it is a flavorsome and tasty environment because of the comfortable atmosphere. The price of noodles starts at 15 baht and goes up to 450 baht.

The restaurant is located opposite Ayuthhaya Hospital on the bank of the Chao Praya River.
It opens daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Please note that 15 baht noodles (small bowl) are not available after 6:00 p.m.

After lunch and checking the time, I found that I had more than two hours before returning my motorcycle. I decided to travel to the Monument of Queen Sri Suriyothai.

The monument was a memorial to Queen Sri Suriyothai, who defended her kingdom in an elephant battle during the Burmese-Siamese War in 1548–1549.

On the way back to Ayutthaya Island, I stopped at Wat Na Phra Men. It is one of the most important temple sites to visit. It is still substantially in its original condition, and it is the only temple that was not destroyed by the Burmese. In fact, the Burmese used the location from which to fire canon into the fortified city.

Finally, my trip was finished. I had turned my rental motorcycle back before taking a boat back to the train station to catch the train at 6:00 p.m.
Actually, there are many attractions that I did not visit, such as Wat Rachaburana, Elephant Camp, Royal and Elephant Kraal, etc.
