After our lovely weekend at Rio Hermoso, we drove another 87 kilometers to reach this amazing little town called Villa La Angostura. It is also a part of Patagonia where there is no shortage of beautiful mountains and lakes. While on our way, we saw a lot of ‘mochileros’ or backpackers. You see, people in Argentina are fans of traveling so it’s a normal thing to see hitchhikers. I can still vividly remember our hitchhiking days. Now, we are the ones picking them up. I sincerely believe that it’s the best way to return the favor to the universe.
When we arrived at our accommodation, El Mercado, I was so excited to see what’s in store for us. It’s not your usual high – end luxurious hotel where you can find modern furniture. In fact, this one is a rustic and shabby apartment style property. But you know, its ‘imperfect’ interior made it even more interesting and ‘homey’ in my opinion. If you are living in the Philippines and born in the 90s, there was this one sitcom called ‘Home Along Da Riles.’ That’s actually the vibe I got from this property – of course, without the noise of trains! It gives the entire property a whole new character. Just so you know, El Mercado was built four years ago and a brainchild of its owner, Patricio James. However, the materials used were quite old and had to be transferred from Buenos Aires.
Can you just imagine the history each material has?
I would recommend that you check this out. It is different yet something worth – remembering. How about El Mercado for your honeymoon?
Review of El Mercado, Villa La Angostura Patagonia
The Room
We stayed in a room called Forever. What a coincidence that as newlyweds, we are just starting our forever, right? So yes, it was perfect. Almost everything in our room was old – style. Surprisingly, it’s not creepy at all. It was very comfortable to stay there. In fact, Jon and I missed our breakfast because we overslept. You can blame that to our room’s bed. Trust me; it was one of the best beds I slept on! It seems therapeutic at some levels. I forgot to ask them where they got it, because – YES, I would love to get one for myself!
Aside from the room itself, you would fall in love with the view of Cerro Bayo!
The Food
Do you know how good the food was?
Let’s just say that it totally ruined my weight loss journey (just kidding). But to tell you frankly, the food offerings were hard to resist. They were freshly made, and the taste was just too heavenly.
The Facility
The El Mercado is located in a complex where you can find different food places, tea house and even stores which I will further explain in the area guide. You will never run out or activities, I tell you.
Activity Guide
There is so much to see from this property. Thanks to Marina and Juan, the tourism officials of this little town. They prepared great activities for us! Here are some of the things you might want to try.

Viejos Tiempos Restaurant – Try out their rib – eye, and trout.
Horseback riding – We tried a 3 – hour ride, and it was worth it. I can say – I totally conquered my fear.
The Hub Restaurant – How about some lamb stew and salmon?
Kayaking – Probably Jon’s favorite activity during the trip.
Sailing and Trekking – We went to Nahuel Huapi Lake where I witnessed clear blue waters. Our trip was even more memorable because we were joined by a fun group. We met a lovely father and son who were bonding and another guy from Uruguay who took a selfie with me. Go sailing and enjoy the incredible view. You can go on a picnic afterward as well. Our trip was arranged by Paola from Correntoso Lake & River Hotel.
That was a long list, right? Who would have thought that you can do so much in this tiny yet magical place?
