It’s been months since Jon and I got married, but our honeymoon adventure isn’t stopping yet. After our amazing three weeks in the Philippines, we went to another beautiful South East Asian country, Indonesia. Can you still remember our rugged days where we would choose to stay in the cheapest accommodations and really stretch our budget to survive? That kind of traveling started in South East Asia, right? Fast forward four years after and we are now staying in one of the best and most luxurious villas we’ve ever seen, The Dusun Villas in Bali Indonesia.
I’m sure that by now you are aware of how beautiful Bali is. From the beaches to the rivers, volcanoes and up to the mountains, Bali is a spot anyone with a travel bug shouldn’t miss. It’s not really a secret as you can find tons of photos and articles about it online. So perhaps, it would be more valuable if I give you some quick phrases you can use when you visit Bali instead.
- Selamat Pagi (Good morning)
- Apa Kabah (How are you?)
- Terima Kasih (Thank you)
- Berapa harganya? (How much is it?)
I think those should keep you covered for a couple of days! For now, I am too excited to share our experience staying in The Dusun Villas Bali Indonesia. I am not exaggerating; it is one of the best properties we’ve ever been invited to.

Our incredible week at The Dusun Villas Bali Indonesia
We spent a full seven nights in The Dusun Villas, after spending one awesome night at the sister property, Kunja Villas, just up the road. We were picked up in the morning with all our luggage and taken seamlessly over to The Dusun Villas. We checked in and went straight into the Villa, which ended up being another three-bedroom villa just for the two of us. We obviously didn’t mind at all! Although only a two-minute walk from the main town, the whole place felt peaceful as soon as we walked in, which was just what we were looking for. The villa had its own lockable gate again, and the garden was totally private, so no-one could see in from outside.
The layout of the villa was very inside/outside with two bedrooms sitting behind a massive terrace, covered by a stunning conical, traditional thatch roof, reaching up at least another story high, making the space feel huge! We slept in the 3rd bedroom at first, because it was like a cool little roundhouse opposite the rest of the villa. Then we switched around a couple of times, just to get a feel for all the beds!
The garden is perfect for relaxing in and has a refreshing swimming pool with a shallow ledge for kids to splash around in (if you have them), a waist deep shallow end and a seriously deep end that you can dive down into! The water in this pool was incredible; even when it rained and got a little cool, the pool was warmer than outside! Breakfast was cooked for us in the villa at whatever time we asked for it with a choice of local fruits, Balinese hot food, American style eggs, continental and great Bali coffee….Thanks, Yudi and co.!
On one of our days, we had a very special Dusun Villas romantic dinner for two, Bali style! A small team came to the villa in the late afternoon and transformed our chill-out patio into our private poolside restaurant, complete with an in-house chef, a waitress, and the full white tablecloth silver service treatment! The four course meal was all prepared by hand with fresh ingredients and was an international menu with an Indonesian twist, all complimented by a bottle of Chilean red wine and the gently fading daylight. By the time we had finished eating, the sun had set, the underwater lights were sparkling in the still water of the pool, and all we had to do was collapse into the bean bag lazy chairs and listen to the bull frogs in the bushes!
Every day, we would wake up, go for a swim, eat breakfast at our leisure, then slide between the pool and doing our work. This is the type of work/life balance we could get used to! By the time we had to leave, suffice to say, we simply did not want to!
Why it’s so hard to beat The Dusun Villas Bali Indonesia
For our first day in Bali, we stayed in The Kunja Villas which had already exceeded our expectations. We then moved to their sister property called The Dusun Villas. And of course, our expectations were running high after our experience The Kunja, but they were quickly surpassed! The Dusun Villas Bali is equally stunning, and it’s actually hard to choose which one is better.
The Dusun Villas has 14 villas to choose from, either one bedroom or three bedrooms. It is located near the beach, the shopping center, and other establishments. This means you can enjoy the tranquility of the accommodation, plus you can just go out and enjoy the vibes that Seminyak is also known for. It’s like you have the best of both worlds!
The Rooms
I really wanted to take hundreds of shots from our villa so that Jon could take note of the utmost design details. Again, this luxury Bali villa style is something that I would love our own future resort, but first and foremost for our own house!
One-Bedroom Villa
There are seven one-bedroom villas in The Dusun Villas. Each consists of a pavilion in a spacious 240 SQ metre property. You have your own garden, a sundeck area, and Jon’s favorite – the swimming pool. The main building features a massive lounge, a dining area and a kitchen where you can freely cook whatever your heart desires. The bedroom and the bathroom are huge too! If you are a TV person like me, you can just relax and enjoy the 60+ channels!
Three-Bedroom Villa
There are also seven three-bedroom villas which are ideal for larger groups. I was actually looking for friends who were in Bali at that time. I mean, something as amazing as this should be shared, right?! You see, if you go to Bali and travel with a group, the best choice you could make is a luxury villa. It’s very good value for money for a whole family of group of friends, especially if you compare the price to other countries.
The Food
One of the best things about staying in Dusun is that you have your own private chef! Can you just imagine starting your day with a breakfast prepared just the way you like it? It was such an amazing experience.
Don’t forget that incredible romantic dinner we spoke about earlier! By the way, you don’t have to have all your food at once like this, but we have to take photos of everything. Usually, you would have a four-course meal! There is also a room service menu that you can order from every day, so you can enjoy this same delicious food whenever you like!
The challenge now is how I am going to lose the pounds from all the eating we’ve done.
The Facilities
What we also love having a villa is that you can spare yourself from walking too much or riding elevators to see and experience the facilities. Everything that you need is provided in your own private space. For example, you have your pool where you can do few laps, or probably just enjoy the calming water. Also, you have your lounge, which in my case was turned into an office. Aside from that, there’s wi- fi, so you don’t have to worry if you need to send an email or do some online stuff. Let me tell you; it’s not really hard to finish tasks in this kind of environment. And lastly, you can skip going to the buffet because the food will be cooked right in front of you.
When in Bali, you shouldn’t miss the authentic Balinese massage. If you want to enjoy one, you don’t have to look further because The Dusun Villas has that for you too!
Let’s not forget the shuttle service available for the guests which make your travel even more seamless.
Activity Guide
If you are in Bali, please take note of these places. Each has a different specialty, and you just need to choose which activities you want to experience.
- Seminyak – If you want to go around and find some night life, then Seminyak is the place to be. Our villa is located here just away from the center, but we decided not to party because we wanted the time to relax. You can also find other activities from our post about The Kunja Villas.
- Ubud – This is known to be the center for traditional crafts and dance. For those who would like to embrace the real Balinese culture, I recommend that you take a tour of Ubud and enjoy the rainforest and temples that surround the area.
- Canggu – Perhaps, join a horseback riding tour and go around the village or the beach. If you are going here on a Sunday, what you shouldn’t miss is the Sunday Market where you can easily get fresh produce and of course, practice your haggling skills.
- Uluwatu – If you wish to take a break from all the night life scene from Seminyak, go to Uluwatu and reunite with nature. A warning, though, you might enjoy this place too much and forget about the time.
- Kuta – Craving for a different kind of water adventure? Visit Waterbom Bali and enjoy the huge slides. I think this perfect if you have kids. They would definitely enjoy here. Or if you wish to watch a traditional theater, they have it here too.
