Bali is an island in Indonesia which is popular for its raw natural beauty with volcanic mountains, rice paddies, and beaches to name only a few. Many tourists have fallen in love with Bali and would always recommend it to their families and friends. Why wouldn’t they? The experience you get from this serene island will always be memorable. Jonathan and I had heard so much about this wonderful place; we couldn’t wait to get there and relax after the craziness of the past few months.
When it was time to fly to Indonesia, we left my home country via Air Asia (our official airline partner) and stayed in Kuala Lumpur for a layover. We reached Bali at night time and were too excited to see what was in store for us.
My friends were right, the villas in Bali are just amazing! We had a three bedroom villa in Kunja, which was obviously too big for us, but hey, I’m not going to complain! This place is exactly what I would like to do with my future spa and resort. You see, Jonathan and I have this long term goal to own a beautiful resort. Maybe the universe is already giving us an idea of what it could look like, don’t you think?
Our short but sweet stay at The Kunja Villas and Spa
We only had one night in Kunja Villas, as we messed up our booking with their sister villa property nearby (The Dusun Villas), but luckily they could squeeze us in here until our booking the next day! Our mistake actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because this place is incredible! We arrived in Bali at night, after 3 am through to 8 pm of two different flights and a long layover in Kuala Lumpur, so we were so we were ready to put our bags down, take a deep breath and dive into a swimming pool! We walked out of the airport in Denpasar to the friendly greetings of the Kunja driver, and from there onwards, everything just happened without us doing a thing! After a short drive, we were checked in quickly whisked away to the villa, which was more amazing that we could have imagined! The first thing we say was the huge pool glistening with the lights from the expansive villa terrace, which was also an open plan living and dining area!
There were three bedrooms leading off from the terrace, a modern kitchen, sofas and this beautiful wooden ceiling in the middle of it all. The private garden and pool were pretty much our favorite thing about the villa. The pool was easily big enough to swim proper laps in, with a real deep end (like +2 meters) and there was no way anyone sees into the property, so we had complete privacy.
We chose to sleep in the central room, which felt like the master suite, although the two other rooms were just as luxurious, with their own bathrooms and small private balconies!
The next morning a friendly member of staff arrived at 7 am (our choice!) to prepare our breakfast, we had the great selection of Indonesian food, some American and a bit of continental to mix it up a bit. Jonathan has the Bali coffee of course, which he highly recommends. This little choice is also an easy way to support a local industry and local farmers!
Having heard about a specialty of Kunja Villas, bath tubs filled with flower petals, we asked if we could try it out the following day, so right after breakfast, we were bathing in hundred of rose petals! Give this a try for some amazing Instagram shots that might weird out your friends a bit! I know, you were expecting a picture of a pretty girl… so sorry about that, he jumped in before me!
We spent the rest of the day was just relaxing by the pool, swimming and catching up one much-needed sun until it was time to move over to our spot for the rest of the week.
The Kunja Villas even have a spa, so we decided to come back later on that evening for a couples massage to iron out the long day getting here. We love a good massage to kick start the relaxation when we arrive! This was our first Balinese massage, and as far as we could tell, it was a very good one, so give it a try!
We actually spent time with a Balinese friend whom I met in Antarctica. Iga here makes a great model, right? We love it when we get to meet up with people we’ve met along the road!
We absolutely loved this place, and although we stayed there for less than 24 hours it felt like we’d been relaxing for days by the time we left, so maybe next time we’ll check them out for the whole of our vacation!
Why we love The Kunja Villas in Bali Indonesia
The Kunja Villas Hotel and Spa is located in Seminyak where you can find awesome beaches, great villas and a lot of bars and clubs for you to mingle with tourists. Everything is just a short walk from the villa, or you can borrow the hotel bicycles to get around instead!
Upon reaching the property, we were made a welcome drink of ginger and lemon grass, and there was a plate of fresh passion fruit and something else we’d never tried before. Eat it, it’s good!
The Rooms
You have the choice of a 1 Bedroom Villa or a 3 Bedroom Villa depending on the number of guests you are traveling with, or if you just love having loads of space!
1 – Bedroom Villa – This is ideal for honeymooners! You can enjoy the solace and intimacy you have here. The 285 m2 property is yours for the whole duration of your stay. You have your own pavilion, large room, a spacious bathroom which has a separate shower and bathtub. You also have a lounge area, kitchen and of course – your own pool! All these and more just for you.
3 – Bedroom Villa – How I wished I had brought my grandparents to The Kunja Villas. I’m sure they would have loved it just as much as I did. This is a 715 m2 villa and garden that has everything you need for a superb vacation. You have four bathrooms, and all bedrooms have king size beds. (Loads of space for all of your stuff too.) You can also swim real laps in your own 12.5-meter x 6.5 meters pool, which Jonathan did, or just float around in it which is nice too!
The Service
What’s more to love in The Kunja Villas? How about having your own private chef to prepare you breakfast in the morning? Ahhh, the luxurious life I have only dreamed about is now a reality, at least for a short while! But really, the breakfast is only a tiny part of how the wonderful people at Kunja make you feel. Everything comes with a kind of calm friendliness that puts you at ease, and nothing is ever too much trouble.
The Food
Our breakfast was fantastic as I’ve already said, but we also could have ordered ‘villa service’ from an amazing menu of local and international food, prepared and served in the villa! On the other hand, the town is just a couple of minutes walk away, where you have a huge choice of local warungs (restaurants). The choice is the important thing and here there is plenty of that!
The Facilities
Unlike regular luxury hotels, you don’t actually have to get out of your ‘space’ if you want to enjoy the facilities because everything is within your villa. You have your own lounge to relax, your own chef and your own pool! What more do you need?
In addition to all of that, The Kunja Villas has its own spa to be fully pampered in, with a selection of massages, reflexology, skin/hair/nail treatments and all kinds of others too.
To take any potential stress out of the end of your stay, they have their own airport shuttle service for its guests too – all included in the service!
Activity Guide
Take note that while in Bali, we decided not to go exploring that much instead of spending most of our days in our villa. This is so we could catch up with work. We stayed in the Philippines for three weeks, and while I attended some meetings, I made sure to spend most of my time with my family. So we had lots of pending tasks (LIKE MY BOOK) that I needed to finish. I guess Bali was the perfect spot to get this done because a relaxing place like this should inspire you more!
But if given a chance, these would be the things we might do when we go back. And yes, we will be back because Bali is so beautiful!
- Go to the beach – Why would you miss the beautiful beaches in Bali? Enjoy the sands and probably do water activities as well. The Double Six Beach is quite popular.
- Totem Room Escape Challenge – If you want to exercise your brains while in Bali, you better check out the Totem Room Escape Challenge. You can take your friends here and try to solve the puzzles. It’s not going to be easy so you have to prepare.
- Dream Museum Zone – For your IG – worthy shots, go to Dream Museum Zone and goof around. If you are traveling with your kids, this would be a great activity too.
- Go Partying at some of the best clubs – And since Seminyak is known to house a lot of cool restaurants and clubs, go around and just party a bit. You can go to Ku De Ta Bali or maybe chill at La Favela Bar and Restaurant. There are a lot, and it’s actually easy to make another article for it!
